Male vs Female Rottweiler

Both make wonderful companions. The differences are tendencies, not rules, and the individual puppy's temperament matters more than sex.
Size
Under the AKC standard, males stand about 24 to 27 inches at the shoulder and females about 22 to 25 inches. Males are typically heavier and broader through the head and chest. European lines often sit at the larger end of the range.
Temperament
Owners often describe males as goofy, affectionate, and a little more physical, while females are often described as more independent early on and quicker to mature. Either can be an excellent guardian and family dog.
Training
Females frequently mature a bit sooner, which some first-time owners find easier. Males can be bigger and stronger on leash during adolescence, so consistent training from day one is important.
Our advice
Tell us about your household: kids, other dogs, your yard, your experience. We will suggest puppies whose personalities fit, male or female.
