German vs Serbian Rottweiler: What Actually Differs

Every Rottweiler traces back to the town of Rottweil in southern Germany, where the dogs drove cattle to market and guarded the money on the way home. "German," "Serbian," and "American" are not separate breeds. They describe where a bloodline has been developed and which standard breeders have followed.
German Rottweilers
In Germany the breed is governed by the ADRK, which sets strict requirements before a dog may be bred: hip and elbow X-rays, a temperament and working test, and conformation review. The result is a dog with heavy bone, a broad blocky head, a short muzzle, and a stable, confident temperament. Tails are left natural, since docking is banned in Germany.
Serbian Rottweilers
Serbian kennels built heavily on German imports and became known for very large, massive dogs with deep chests and pronounced heads. Many breeders prize Serbian lines for presence and bone. Good Serbian lines keep the steady temperament of their German ancestors; the best breeders select for both.
American Rottweilers
Dogs bred to the AKC standard in the United States are often a little lighter in bone and longer in muzzle, and the tail is commonly docked. Many are excellent family dogs. When people say "European Rottweiler" they usually mean the heavier German or Serbian type.
Which one should you choose?
Our puppies combine German and Serbian import pedigrees, registered with the AKC. That gives you the head, chest, and bone people love in European lines with registration paperwork your vet and insurer recognize. Whatever line you pick, judge the individual parents: their health testing, their temperament around strangers, and how they behave with children.
